we'll have our usuals

While we were in Singapore, Bryan and I had been craving for our usuals at Pancake House. So when we arrived in Cebu, a couple days later, we visited Pancake House at Ayala Centre and ordered our usuals- Chocolate Marble Waffle, Spaghetti with Meat Sauce (3 orders to be exact) and bottomless iced teas. I didn't have my Potato Salad since I've been pigging out since the time I've stepped my feet in my parent's place. Hihihi!

Anyway, here's our favorites:

Hubby's Spaghetti,

My ultimate favorite waffle, Chocolate Marble with creamy butter, peanut butter and pancake syrup.

Yummilicious!!!

the best chocolate mousse in town (SG)

A velvety and luscious bitter-sweet chocolate mousse on a base of chocolate sponge and crunchy praline is more than enough to rouse your worn out self. Did I not tell you that it has espresso coffee in it?

An ideal treat for a chocoholic or a caffeine aficionado.

singapore fried noodles

I'm staying in Singapore now for almost a year, yet it is only recently that I wanted to try eating at Kopitiams or ordering local foods at hawker stalls for takeaway. I kind of regret, since Singapore has fantastic foods to chow. So the past few months, we stay away from fastfood chains.

Anyway, there's this dish that I became addicted to. Aside from the food smelling like North Park back home, it's delicious, too. North Park delicious.

Singapore fried noodles...my comfort food.

So here's how the uncle, who sells this fried noodles, cooked it.

He pour oil into the wok, when the oil was hot enough, he cracked one egg then tossed in the prepared (meaning, cut, julienned or shredded) red bell pepper, carrots , cabbage, dried shrimps, and some hotdogs into the wok. With a few tosses here and there, he added the rice vermicelli and a prepared stock. I

In 2 or 3 minutes, he placed it in a microwavable container and handed it to me.

Easy, eh?

I didn't see him placed any seasoning. Perhaps the prepared stock or broth had been seasoned with salt, pepper and brown sugar.

Oh, he placed a slice of calamansi and slices of fresh green chillis, too.

Salad or Dessert?

Hubby bought a local dessert for me to try. He said he tasted it, and it was good; sweet and spicy. Then I thought to myself; perhaps this must be good since he's so hard to please when it comes to food. You see, hubby is one fussy lot.

When I tried it, it was sweet with a hint of spice and tang. It was a fusion of tastes! When I picked another slice and tasted it, I said to him, "This is a small slice of pineapple in my mouth." So I thought it really was a dessert, since it's what his client had said. I picked another one, this time I got a sweet green mango, like Indian mango sweet, which is what I liked.

Anyway, as I went on eating for a few more, I suddenly didn't like it since it became really complicated in my palate. I didn't know why; but in my opinion, a dessert is suppose to be sweet with no chillis in it. Because if there IS chilli, it is an appetizer for me, or a vegan salad, not a dessert. So perhaps, telling me it's a dessert but doesn't taste like a dessert for me is the reason why I didn't finish it.

Okay, I'm not going to prolong your agony of knowing what it is. *Laughs* It is what they call Rojak.

When I checked Mr. Yahoo! what a Rojak is, it said Singapore Salad. So I was right afterall. Haha. Hubby's client was wrong lah.

Anyway, the Rojak that he bought had slices of fried tofu, pineapple, mango, cucumber, some bean sprouts and crushed peanuts, which by the way, also gave a nutty twist. It has bits of fresh chillis that was mixed with the sweet sauce. Or must I say dressing?

According to hubby, the man selling it in the UBI Techpark area first mixed the sauce; vinegar, sugar, fresh minced chillis, salt, some kind of shrimp paste and ground nuts. Then he tossed in the slices of fried tofu, pineapple, cucumber, mango and cooked bean sprouts, then mixed it well. After which, he transferred it to a takeaway styrofoam.

p.s. I hope the next time hubby brings something home and tells me it's a dessert, I really hope he means a REAL dessert...a sweet king.

quick casual dining

When you crave for an Italian fare and you are in Singapore, I suggest you visit Pastamania.

Pastamania; quick casual dining that does not burn you pocket. I’ve learned that it has 15 different locations. (But I’ve only been to their Suntec City, Harbourfront Centre and Plaza Singapura branches.)

As one frugal spender, I look for low-priced and superior quality meals. Pastamania has not disappointed me so far. Although we dine their once a month as a treat to ourselves, after eating food from kopitiams or hawkers stalls, which by the way sells good AND really cheap local fare.

Pastamania serves appetizers, desserts, pizzas (a choice of a 7inch or 10inches) and a wide range of pasta dishes to choose from; rich and creamy pastas, vegetarian pastas, oven baked pastas, stuffed pastas, and seafood pastas.

Aside from the usual beverages like Coca Cola products and iced tea, they also serve hot tea, smoothies, juices, cold caffe, hot caffe (Vittoria), wine, Italian sodas, mineral water and beer. Mind you, they have San Migueal Beer Pale Pilsen. But if a glass of your usual Coke is not in your budget for the moment or you’re simply counting the additional calorie, you can ask for a glass of water and it’ll be delivered to your table.

Anyway, whenever we dine in or order for takeaway, we always have our usuals; Carbonara for hubby and either Creamy Chicken or Marinara for moi. *smiles* Of course, we will never forget our super thin crust Margherita pizza, which is just tomato sauce and lots of mozzarella cheese.

Carbonara made of pasta, bacon, parmesan and cream

Marinara; a seafood pasta with prawns, squid and clams in an herby tomato sauce

Margherita pizza topping of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese

This is a hearty meal for us, with a glass of Coke, of course!

first entry

This will be another blog site for me, yes. But this one will be different. I’m not gonna rant about my everyday life in here, since after all, this is Food Hunter's Food Blog!

I’m going to blog the foods, restaurants, drinks, etc, etc, etc, that I’ve tried, eaten, craved and so on. And yes, I will still rant if I don’t like the service of the restaurants, or if the food is good or bad or worse, yucky. Hehehe.

Just wait for my first post later. See you around.
